Mermaid Burn Final by PiratoLoco Mermaid Burn Final by PiratoLoco
This is how the actual piece turned out. I have a lot to learn as far as controlling the tones with the wood varnish, but its not bad for a first go at it I think. Had a lot of fun doing this.

This is so cool! Do you use different varnishes for the tones, or just vary the number of layers applied?

This is really cool! I think it turned out great from the original sketch and concept, is the white just paint or some type of varnish? <---has absolutely no clue about art like this.

Thanks a bunch. The white is acrylic paint actually...give it a try its sort of like managing a japanese rock garden i imagine. Only you have something you can put down and move on to something else after :)

Hey thanks a lot...looking forward to getting better. I think the girl I saw that did it amazingly well was named Zaruhi. I put a link to her somewhere on the early stage of the piece....check her out.

Hey Thank you!! This is actually my first one...Some tips from my first time out. Make sure you use acrylic paint for your white (or any other extreme color). Get some insanely super fine sandpaper (300 grit or more) That was my best friend. You can always re-burn your lines. Make sure your surface has no blemishes before you apply the stain, those areas go super dark even on light stains.

Good luck ...can't wait to see what you come up with.

Do you literally... burn the word to make the line art? I'm not all too familiar with this kind of craft. :s

Yes, you have tools like soldering guns that get hot enough to burn the wood but not light it on fire. And you just draw with it
